PDA Profile Assessment
NHS & NICE Compliant Child ADHD, Autism & Psychiatric Evaluations
Do simple everyday demands often lead to anxiety, avoidance, or distress that feels out of proportion to the request? At Private ADHD & Autism UK, we offer a specialist PDA profile assessment for children and adults who already have an autism diagnosis and need further support understanding demand avoidance, anxiety, mood, and daily functioning.
Pathological Demand Avoidance, often known as PDA, is not currently given as a standalone clinical diagnosis in the UK. However, PDA traits can be recognised as part of a wider autism profile, helping individuals, parents, schools and professionals better understand patterns of anxiety, avoidance and emotional overwhelm.

What Is Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)?
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is commonly understood as a profile that can sit alongside an autism spectrum condition. It is often linked to high anxiety and a strong need to feel in control of the environment.
For some people, everyday tasks and demands can feel overwhelming, even when they seem small or reasonable to others. This can lead to avoidance, distress, refusal, negotiation, distraction, shutdowns or emotional dysregulation.
A pathological demand avoidance assessment can help explain what may be sitting underneath these behaviours, including anxiety, sensory sensitivities, emotional regulation needs and wider demand avoidance traits. This allows families and professionals to respond with greater understanding and more appropriate support strategies.
Who Is a PDA Assessment For?
A PDA assessment is suitable for both adults and children who have undergone an autism diagnosis and are looking for support with demand avoidance. Whether it’s affecting everyday life, school, work, relationships, or social interactions, PDA assessments can provide the support you need.
You may benefit from a PDA profile assessment if:
- You are unsure whether PDA features or demand avoidance traits are present
- Your child struggles with school demands, routines, transitions, or everyday tasks
- Traditional behaviour strategies are not working
- Anxiety, mood or emotional regulation difficulties are increasing
- Sensory sensitivities or sensory regulation difficulties are affecting daily life
- Social situations or school expectations feel overwhelming
- Your child has special educational needs, and you need clearer recommendations for school
- You need guidance on practical support strategies, such as adapting communication, reducing pressure, or using visual schedules carefully
- You want to better understand how to support your child or yourself
What Our PDA Profile Assessment Includes
We offer a full online mental health assessment following an autism diagnosis at Private ADHD & Autism UK. This 90-minute appointment with a specialist neurodevelopmental psychologist costs £495.
The assessment looks at key areas of functioning, including anxiety, mood, emotional regulation, behaviour, family life, school or work pressures, sensory needs and coping strategies.
Where PDA profile traits are felt to be present, these can be included in the final report. The report will also include practical recommendations and guidance on where to get support and whether individual or family support is recommended.
Ongoing Support After Your PDA Profile Assessment
Following your PDA profile assessment, we can also offer ongoing therapeutic support where appropriate. This gives you space to better understand your needs, strengths and difficulties, while also identifying clear goals for therapy and support.
You can book an initial block of 4 sessions, with each session lasting 1 hour and taking place once a week. During this block, we will complete a full assessment of your needs and explore what support may be most helpful moving forward.
Support is completely tailored to the individual and may draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, depending on your needs. This may include support with anxiety, low mood, emotional dysregulation, trauma, attachment difficulties, autism, ADHD and wider neurodevelopmental needs.
Sessions are available online, with a mixture of weekday, evening and weekend appointments to help accommodate your schedule.
